Purpose: Using the period and the distance from the center of mass of a pendulum, we set about calculating the acceleration due to gravity.
Materials:
*Meter stick (for pendulum)
*Bent paperclip
*Modeling clay (to hold the meter stick on the paperclip)
*Graphing calculator
*Ring stand
*Clamp
*Wooden blocks
*Photogate
Conclusion:
My math showed the acceleration due to gravity to be about 9.7 m/s^2. That's pretty dang close to Earth's actual gravity of about 9.8 m/s^2.
